2026: It's Time to Admit the Wolds Bike Park Isn't Going to Happen

For years, supporters of the proposed Wolds Bike Park have promised a world-class cycling destination that would transform the local area. Yet despite those promises, the reality is impossible to ignore: there is still no bike park, no construction, and no clear timetable for delivery.

The project may have secured planning permission, but planning approval is only one step in a much larger process. A development cannot be built without funding, investment, contractors and the financial confidence to proceed. Years after planning consent was granted, there is still no public evidence that these essential ingredients are in place.

The project's own communications have continued to refer to the need to secure investment before construction can begin. For many local residents, this raises an obvious question: if the funding has not been secured after all this time, is the scheme genuinely viable?

The prolonged lack of visible progress has inevitably damaged confidence. As each year passes without construction starting, it becomes increasingly difficult to believe that the development will ever move beyond drawings and promotional material. While no formal announcement has been made cancelling the project, the absence of meaningful progress speaks for itself.

For those who have opposed the development from the outset, the delay reinforces concerns that the scheme was overly ambitious, financially uncertain and unlikely to deliver on the promises made during the planning process. The Lincolnshire Wolds is a nationally protected landscape, and many believe it should not continue to face the uncertainty created by a project that shows little sign of becoming reality.

Rather than allowing the proposal to remain in limbo indefinitely, there comes a point when honesty is needed. Local communities deserve clarity. Businesses deserve certainty. Landowners deserve to know the future of the site.

Time for a Decision

No one can say with certainty that the Wolds Bike Park will never be built. However, after years without construction, without confirmed funding and without a clear delivery programme, it is entirely reasonable to question whether the project remains achievable.

In our view, the evidence suggests that the proposal has stalled and that the prospects of it proceeding in its current form are increasingly remote. If the Christopher Heneage Farms cannot demonstrate that the project is fully funded and ready to move forward, then it may be time for planning authorities and the community to ask whether it is in everyone's interests for the proposal to remain alive indefinitely.

The Wolds deserves certainty—not endless promises.
